MY STORY & GAMAR'S ORIGIN

Each life is a journey, a map of stories, a manifesto of love lived and of constant evolving.  Gamar in Arabic means both moon and beauty.  The inherent beauty in each of us is unique and to be treasured.  It is testament to the extent we nurture our rich internal universe, constantly in conversation with the external world around us.

When I was 22 and living in Jordan - working on ocean-coastal conservation and environmental education projects in the Red Sea Region - I befriended a young Bedouin man while visiting the Nabatean ruins of Siq al-Barid outside of Petra.  He said he was nicknaming me Gamar because I reminded him of the moon. 

The moon offers constancy amidst change, and she has always played a prominent role in my life.  Growing up around the world – Indonesia, Oman, Kenya, Hawaii, France, South Africa, Jordan, Mexico – the moon became my connection to home.

No matter where I am in the world physically, or where my loved ones are,

we are always connected under the same moon.

The Gamar Jewellery line is a dream made manifest.  It is also a natural progression in my career and creative journey thus far, which has traversed environmental & humanitarian project development, wellness work and fine art across eight countries and five continents. Gamar brings these loves together in beautiful wearable form – celebrating the planet, the mystery and magic of existence, and the unique space each one of us creates within it.
