JEWELLERY CARE

To ensure your Jewellery keepsakes continue to accompany you during your life's journey and beyond, Gamar recommends you follow certain care guidelines and treat them with love.
For maximum durability (and if you prefer to never take off your jewels), Gamar can always custom make any design in solid yellow, rose or white gold by custom order.

Caring for your Gold-Plated Jewellery:

The layer of gold-plating on jewellery can last many years if not a lifetime if properly cared for. Otherwise, this layer can rub off or tarnish over time due to a variety of factors. Natural oils in our skin, chemicals, perfumes, ingredients in our skincare products, as well as sand, salt and sun can all impact a gold plated finish.

To make sure your gold-plated jewellery lasts as long as possible, please consider the following:

  1. Take your jewellery off before taking a shower, swimming, going to the beach, or exercising. Sweat, salt, chlorine and sand can all impact the gold finish, leading to potential discolouration and surface damage.
  2. Remove your jewellery before going to bed, to avoid unnecessary friction which can cause the gold plating layer to rub off over time.
  3. Apply personal care products – such as perfumes, hairsprays, lotions, and creams – well before wearing your jewellery (try to allow these products to sink in fully, so that any potentially damaging ingredients are less likely to interact with your jewellery once you put it on).
  4. As harsh chemicals and acids can affect the finish and shine of jewellery, please remove your pieces before doing household cleaning or when otherwise handling any chemical or acidic products.
  5. Store your jewellery in a cool, dry place, such as inside a jewellery box or soft jewellery pouch. It is also recommended to keep jewellery pieces separate from one another, so as to avoid unnecessary friction or rubbing. When not in use, keep your pieces away from moisture or other potential irritants.

Cleaning Gold Plated Jewellery:

If your jewellery pieces become dirty or lose their lustre, you can clean them with a soft cloth (microfibre works well), dampened with a little water and even a small amount of mild soap.  Make sure to thoroughly dry your pieces afterwards and before storing or wearing.  You absolutely want to avoid using abrasive cleaners, as they can contribute to the flaking off of the gold layer.

Pieces that are heavily tarnished or that have lost their layer of gold plating will need to be professionally re-plated to restore them to their original quality.

Considerations for your Gamar Pendants that open:

It helps to put your rolled-up note inside the cap first, and then insert into the main body of the capsule pendant.  Please ensure that the cap is properly secure after closing your pendant.  Sometimes it helps to twist the cap slightly at the end to make sure it is tightly in place. You can use your fingernail to gently edge open the cap.  These are delicate handmade items, so please always handle with care.  Gamar jewels are keepsakes to be cherished and treated with love, just like the messages, dreams and intentions you carry inside.
